Import Issues From Maya to Unreal Engine

Tried importing my model to UE4 from Maya but it did not recognise the full model and kept giving me various messeages saying assets failed to create or the asset was not smooth. This was also the reason it was taking a long time for the model to import into UE4. I realised there were too many polygons in the model so decreased these and this created a smoothed model. I then separated the model into the different parts and transferred them into Unreal and put the model back together again. It was similar to completing a jigsaw puzzle. The model now imported a lot quicker.
