The Lighthouse of Alexandria – Idea No.1

The Lighthouse of Alexandria

The lighthouse was one of the wonders of the ancient world. It was built in 280 BC and destroyed in 1323 after some earthquakes. At the time it was the tallest man made structure standing at 137m with it’s light being seen up to 35 miles out at sea. Plans have been put forward to the Egyptian government to build a replica near the site of the original lighthouse.

Double Project – Plan

Double Project

A 3d rendered model of the Taj Mahal and the surrounding environment seen through the Oculus Rift.

My project will not be focused on the accuracy of the dimensions of the building but the main vision of my project is to have a virtual reality tour using the Oculus Rift. It is such a famous building but unless you have a chance to visit India you cannot appreciate the beauty of it. My interpretation will be a similar representation so you can get a feel of the place. I will add background music and might try to have a voice over providing the history of the Taj Mahal.

I am impressed with the VR created for Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series.

A third year student from last year created a 3D model of Moulin Rouge, which I viewed with the Oculus Rift at the end of year show.

Each part will be created individually and then joined together

There is a lot of repetitive and equal portions to the building. For example the four facades are the same so I would only have to create one and then copy it for the others.

The finer details will also be created using similar tools as for the larger parts of the building.

I will use and create textures with UV mapping to get the right effects and textures on the building.

Quick Model of Taj Mahal

I created this really quickly just to see if it would work and feel that I could complete the project within the two semesters.
