Richard Wagner (1813-1883)

Richard Wagner (1813-1883)

Wagner was a German composer. He believed in Gesamtkunstwerk (absolute art work). This was the combination of poetic, visual, musical and dramatic arts. He believed that these should be totally immersed especially in the theatre with opera. He believed whole theatre should be designed as a whole immersion. In 1876 he built the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, a opera house which furthered his ambition of the total artwork and total immersion in the arts by the audience.
