Lady Ada Lovelace (1815-1852)

Lady Ada Lovelace (1815-1852)

Ada Lovelace was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron. She was a British mathematician and described as the worlds first computer programmer. She became a close friend of Charles Babbage. It was whilst translating an article by the Italian mathematician Luigi Menabrea about the ‘analytical engine’ that Ada who knew so much about the machine created mathematical programmes in patterns like knitting. This was the first computer programming but she was not recognised for this.
