Charles Babbage (1791-1871)

He was a British mathematician and the first pioneer of computing. Babbage developed the ‘Difference Engine’ in the 1820s, which was a machine that could perform mathematical calculations. He also invented the ‘Analytical Engine (1852).’ It could perform arithmetical calculations using punched and not punched cards and perform not just one mathematical task but any kind of calculation. The Analytical Engine was never successfully completed.

He also campaigned for reform in British Science.
